It would be so easy to blame the police for not bothering to make more of an effort to find Bellfield. The truth is that the police are under maned and under resourced, and have been for many years. The Coalition Governments plans to make senior police officers and detectives redundant and ask them to come back to work as unpaid volunteers is ludicrous and can only make matters worse. Unless Cameron. Clegg and in particular Ken Clarke have a change of heart, I fear for law and order in this country.
