I dont know what haircut to get?

ok. I'm 17 and male. I currently have long hair that I flip to the right. I'm seeing more and more of my friends go for the shorter haircuts nowadays and I think I might want to try it. I've honestly thought short hair has never looked good on me for two reasons I have an annoying cowlick on the right of my forehead and I don't know how I should get my hair cut. any advice on what looks good and what doesn't? how should I cut it? and I have gotten crew cuts in the past and a few buzzes but I have always looked soo stupid and generic. I want girls to notice my hair and go WHOA he's hot. I've managed to be called cute with the hair I have now and I'm not at all ugly I just want to have a good haircut.
